exchange4linux was a groupware solution that offered e-mail and webmail server services , a shared address book, calendar, notes and tasks. Thanks to seamless Outlook integration , tools from third-party manufacturers such as “PDA-sync” or “Duplicates Remover for Outlook” worked without any problems. exchange4linux was designed as an alternative to Microsoft Exchange or Microsoft Small Business Server.
The open source project exchange4linux was developed by Neuberger & Hughes GmbH in Plochingen . The development was stopped as part of the cooperation between Neuberger & Hughes and Zarafa .
exchange4linux server suite 3.x, the commercial version of exchange4linux, contained all the features of the open source solution, a web-based administration interface, support and software maintenance. The Kaspersky Virus Wall and the Easy PDF Service are optionally available .

exchange4linux offered groupware functionality through the connection of the Linux -based server with Outlook clients. The communication between server and client is based on the free SWAP technology. S imple W orkgroup A ccess P rotocol improves the handling and availability of information. It could be used to exchange workgroup data, design your own web frontends or develop connectors for other workgroup clients.
Outlook clients can connect to the exchange4linux server from practically anywhere via VPN or HTTPS .
exchange4linux was available as an "easy-to-install" ISO image or as source code .
