Exchange job definition format

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Exchange Job Definition Format (XJDF) is a further development and simplification of the Job Definition Format and is supported by the CIP4 organization.

technology

XJDF, like the JDF Job Definition Format , is based on XML . While JDF tried to describe a completely electronic job ticket with all the associated work steps, with XJDF the main focus is on the description of a single work step or a printed product. This eliminates many references between the work steps, so that the XML structure in XJDF is more simply structured.

application

With XJDF, printed products can be described and work steps for the production of printed products can be planned. In both cases, general header data such as delivery date, addresses or quantities can be transferred.

When describing products, properties of the finished product such as size, color, paper type or type of binding are described. The choice of the manufacturing process is left to the supplier.

When describing work steps, details of production, such as machine assignment, properties of intermediate products and machine settings are transferred.

Reference implementation of XJDF

In a reference implementation, XJDF is used to connect web-to-print systems with the Prinect print production system from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen .

history

XJDF was announced at Drupa 2016 and was explained in more detail in several events and publications.

The Exchange Job Definition Format was published in early 2018 and is available from CIP4 in the XJDF area.
