Exercise

Exercise ( lat. Exercitium 'exercise') means:

  • spiritual, mental exercise, often in a religious context; see retreat
  • outdated expression for school exercise or housework; see homework
  • outdated expression for exercise in general, later especially in the military; see Exercise
  • Appropriate exercises for the aristocracy consisting of riding, fencing and dancing. This found its continuation at the universities , where there were fencing, riding and dancing masters for this purpose.
  • When rubbing a salamander (ritual) , the command ad exercitium salamandri occurs as part of the ritual .
