Excochleation (from Latin : cochlear "spoon"), (English: excochleation) describes the scraping out of a bone cavity with a sharp spoon . The aim of this excochleation is to remove inflamed tissue (e.g. granulation tissue or cyst epithelium ) and thereby eliminate foci of the disease. In the case of wound healing disorders (e.g. after tooth extraction ), an excochleation is performed to freshen the wound.
