Structure of the skin

As excoriation ( Excoriatio ) refers to a substance defect of the skin , which into the papillary dermis ranges (literally the "outward bends", "bring to light" the dermis = corium). This is caused , for example, by scratching on severely itchy dermatoses . Deeper lying defects are an ulcer after atraumatic origin or a "deep wound" (traumatic wound).
