The name corresponds to the biblical Job and is given in memory of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari , a companion of the Prophet Mohammed , who probably died during the first siege of Constantinople (674-678) and whose grave is in the eponymous district of Istanbul. With reference to the story of Job, the name is also understood as a symbol of patience and humility. The Turkish family name Eyüboğlu is derived from Eyüp .
