Subject association geography-economics-community studies

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Baden-Wuerttemberg there has been the subject association geography-economics-community studies (EWG) since the educational plan reform 2004 at secondary schools , which arose from the amalgamation of the previous subjects geography and community studies. In the first drafts for the subject association, the term geography-politics-economics (EPW) was used, but this was refrained from in the constitution of the state of Baden-Württemberg because of the constitutional status of the subject community studies . The naming of the sub-area of economics was due to demands of the economy for a separate subject economics. Economics in the EEC is only a real thematic innovation to a limited extent. The previous, relatively extensive economics topics in geography and social studies have only been updated, supplemented with new topics such as globalization and formulated as skills / educational standards.

Educational standards EEC

The topics and competencies for EEC are developed in the 2004 education plan in the form of educational standards. The Heidelberg political scientist Anton Hauler showed, however, that social studies topics were in some cases clearly written off from the old 1994 education plan and that central requirements for educational standards were not met.

Number of hours and position of the subject

As part of the educational plan reform in 2004, schools have given themselves their own timetable; they only have to adhere to the contingency timetable. Here, 15 hours per week are provided for the EEC subject association. Despite this large number of hours, the EEC subject group, in contrast to the natural science work group (NWA), is not a core subject in the Realschule's promotion regulations; there are also no school years with separate subject modules. Up to the 2007/2008 school year, comparative papers were written in the EEC . The subject association EEC is also the main subject at many schools for the topic-oriented projects economics, administration and law ( TOP WVR ) and vocational orientation in secondary schools (TOP BORS).

Differences to corresponding subject groups at secondary schools and grammar schools in Baden-Württemberg

In contrast to the GWG ( geography, economy and community studies ) group of subjects at the grammar school, the EEC subject group is usually taught by a single teacher within a class. At secondary schools, geography and social studies are combined with history and form the subject association World-Time-Society (WZG), but economic topics are primarily part of the subject association economy-work-health (WAG). The different composition of the subject groups in the individual school types is cited by critics as an indication of a lack of systematics.

school books

There are five schoolbooks from the publishers Cornelsen, Klett, Schoeningh, Schroedel and Westermann for the subject association EEC, some of which differ considerably in terms of conception and choice of subject.
