The Belgern ferry is a yaw cable ferry across the Elbe in the Belgern district of the town of Belgern-Schildau in Saxony. The ferry is at Elbe kilometer 140.5. The closest Elbe crossings are the bridges in Mühlberg approx. 10 km upstream and in Torgau approx. 15 km downstream.

history

The ferry raft was already leased by the Buch monastery in the Middle Ages . At the end of the Second World War there was a pontoon bridge for the many refugees that was pulled into the Belgeran harbor during the day to be protected from Allied air raids. After the war, the ferry was mainly used by field workers who worked at Gut Köllitsch (formerly Göllitsch and Korgitsch) and who took the milk from there to the dairy in Belgern.

On the morning of June 16, 2019, a Czech cargo ship collided with the ferry. After severe damage to the hydraulics of the access ramps, the ferry is out of service until further notice.
