Dyer tower

Dye tower in Augsburg's textile district

The dye tower used in the 18th and 19th centuries by the guild of bleachers and dyers was used to hang up and dry dyed lengths of fabric. Such a testimony to the flourishing textile industry has been preserved in the textile city of Augsburg : a dye tower on the site of the former Augsburg worsted spinning mill (AKS) was placed under monument protection.

Structure

Typical of the appearance of a dye tower is the rectangular floor plan with a brick base. A wooden structure rises up to 12 meters above it. At the top there is a surrounding pole frame for hanging up the wet fabric panels. An attached mansard roof protects the building from the weather.
