Federation of People's Associations of Turkish Social Democrats

The Federation of the People's Associations of Turkish Social Democrats ( HDF - Sosyaldemokrat Halk Dernekleri Federasyonu ) is a on 28./29. Political self-help organization founded by the Turkish Social Democrats in Europe in October 1977 in Berlin .

It is not linked to parties , but works closely with the social democratic parties . It unites 45 local associations from the Federal Republic, Switzerland, Sweden, England, France, Holland, Belgium, Denmark and Austria under one roof.

history

When it was founded, the overriding aim was to influence political events in Turkey from a social democratic point of view, to show solidarity with the social democrats in Turkey and to draw the attention of the Turkish governments to the problems of Turkish workers in Europe.

After 40 years of labor immigration of Turkish migrants in Europe, the main task for the HDF is to represent the political interests of Turkish migrants in Europe and to develop solutions in all areas of life.

aims

The association is of the opinion that nationals with the nationality of the recruiting countries themselves must take initiatives so that in a multicultural society such as the Western European countries, people from different countries and with different cultures can live together peacefully without discrimination against one or the other minority becomes possible in the countries.

In addition, the association aims to offer migrants a platform where they can formulate their legitimate interests and articulate them externally. In addition, the HDF is aware that as a self-help organization of people who are discriminated against, they have to do away with many things. Therefore, the member organizations are active in many areas such as advice of all kinds, courses, training, youth work and culture.

The association promotes and supports cultural and social work and sets up projects. HDF mostly realizes these projects not only directly through its member organizations, but through associations, initiatives and projects that have been founded by HDF members.

HDF is committed to social democracy, i. H.:

  • the association considers a free and democratic basic order to be an indispensable prerequisite for its work
  • the association wants to contribute to developing a society in which every person can develop freely in responsibility for himself and for the community
  • the association advocates more freedom, justice and solidarity
  • the association wants to counteract the emergence of social and political injustice and actively participate in solving social and political problems

tasks

  • Group work: working groups for women, seniors, young people
  • International cooperation: Further development of relations between Germany and Turkey
  • Cultural work: To preserve and further develop the cultural identity of Turkish migrants
  • Migration policy: Equal and peaceful coexistence between Germans and migrants and equal rights for migrants in all areas of society
  • Political education: Educational activity for the democratic form of government and international cooperation, international understanding
  • International understanding: breaking down prejudices, anti-racist work

These tasks are carried out by

  • Publication of information material and public relations
  • Support and creation of opportunities for intellectual and artistic activities as well as leisure activities
  • Organization of lectures, seminars and courses
