Footlet (diving)

Socks

Booties are mainly used by divers for thermal insulation when diving . But booties are also useful as protection against abrasions and cuts when entering the water. They are also necessary to be able to wear so-called device fins open at the back (fins for diving with breathing apparatus).

Socks are usually made of about 3 to 5 mm thick, often nylon-laminated neoprene , provided with tread rubber soles. Many booties are also equipped with a side zip that makes them easier to put on. It is useful if the zippers are also backed with neoprene to ensure better thermal protection. As with hiking boots, you have to make sure that socks fit well and that there are no chafing seams on the inside, because the feet are more or less constantly in motion when diving. Neoprene socks that are worn under the socks offer additional protection against the cold.
