Driving license and driving license (SADC)

In the Development Community of Southern Africa (SADC), uniform driving license classes have been in place since 1998 . So far (as of October 2010), however, not all of these states have introduced uniform classes and driving licenses.

There are currently eight different driving license classes that can be restricted by individual restrictions such as “only tractors”. In all countries a minimum age of 17 for a new drivers license (applies uniformly for all license classes English Learner's License ) and 18 years for a full driving license.

A1 Motorcycles without a sidecar and with a displacement not exceeding 125 cm³ or electrically powered; with the exception of vehicles
(i) which are powered by electricity from fixed batteries and controlled by pedestrians
(ii) which have a curb weight of no more than 230 kilograms and which are specially built and used, but not simply adapted, to people with disabilities or the elderly Individuals, and only these, to enable advancement
(i) Motorcycle with sidecar
(ii) Trike
(iii) Quad with no more than 125 cm³
(iv) Vehicles with pedals and a motor or electric motor which is fixed and permanently attached and which is driven by the pedals and the motor or electric Engine is ensured

B. Motor vehicles with the exception of motorcycles, motor trikes, motor quads, tractors and motor vehicles in the nature of an agricultural or industrial machine whose use is not primarily for the transport of people or goods; but in particular
(i) motor vehicles with an unladen weight of no more than 3500 kilograms
(ii) minibuses, buses or transport with an unladen weight of not more than 3500 kilograms, with or without a trailer whose total weight does not exceed 750 kilograms, but without motor vehicle Trains

(ii) Motor vehicles like an agricultural or industrial machine whose use is not primarily for the transport of people or goods

C. Motor vehicles with the exception of motorcycles, motor trikes, motor quads, tractors and motor vehicles in the nature of an agricultural or industrial machine whose use is not primarily for the transport of people or goods; Bus or truck with a total weight of more than 16,000 kilograms, with or without a trailer whose total weight does not exceed 750 kilograms, but without motor vehicle trains includes all vehicles in driving license classes C1 and B. in Namibia, among others, this driving license class does not include trailers; Formerly part of the driving license classes 3, 10 and 14 (South Africa, Namibia)
C1 Motor vehicles with the exception of motorcycles, motor trikes, motor quads, tractors and motor vehicles in the nature of an agricultural or industrial machine whose use is not primarily for the transport of people or goods; in particular (i) motor vehicles with an unladen weight of more than 3,500 kilograms, but not more than 16,000 kilograms
(ii) minibuses, buses or transport with an unladen weight of more than 3,500 kilograms, but not more than 16,000 kilograms, with or without a trailer its total weight is no more than 750 kilograms, but excluding motor vehicle trains
includes all vehicles with a B driving license in Namibia, among others, this driving license class does not include trailers; Formerly part of the driving license classes 3, 10 and 14 (South Africa, Namibia)
BE / EB Motor vehicles with the exception of motorcycles, motor trikes, motor quads, tractors and motor vehicles in the nature of an agricultural or industrial machine whose use is not primarily for the transport of people or goods; in particular
(i) motor vehicle trains that weigh no more than 3500 kilograms
(ii) a combination of motor vehicles with an unladen weight of not more than 3500 kilograms or minibuses, buses or trucks with an unladen weight of not more than 3500 kilograms, with the trailer its total weight is more than 750 kilograms
includes all vehicles with a B driving license Formerly part of the driving license classes 3, 10 and 14 (South Africa, Namibia)
C1E / EC1 Motor vehicles with the exception of motorcycles, motor trikes, motor quads, tractors and motor vehicles in the nature of an agricultural or industrial machine whose use is not primarily for the transport of people or goods; in particular
(i) motor vehicle trains weighing more than 3500 kilograms but weighing less than 16,000 kilograms
(ii) a combination of motor vehicles with an empty weight of more than 3500 kilograms but less than 16,000 kilograms or minibuses, buses or trucks with an empty weight of no more than 3500 kilograms, with a trailer whose total weight is more than 750 kilograms
includes all vehicles in driving license classes B, C1 and EB / BE Formerly part of the driving license classes 3, 10 and 14 (South Africa, Namibia)
EC / CE Motor vehicles with the exception of motorcycles, motor trikes, motor quads, tractors and motor vehicles in the nature of an agricultural or industrial machine whose use is not primarily for the transport of people or goods; in particular
(i) motor vehicle trains with more than 16,000 kilograms
(ii) a combination of motor vehicles with an unladen weight of more than 16,000 kilograms or a bus or truck with an unladen weight of more than 16,000 kilograms with a trailer whose total weight is more than 750 kilograms
includes all vehicles in driving license classes B, C, C1, EB / BE and C1E / EC1 Formerly part of the driving license classes 3, 10 and 14 (South Africa, Namibia)
