Driving license retraining in Austria

Under a retraining is understood in Austria a traffic psychology course of Transport, alcohol flashy automobile bike handlebar or with other problems (especially incidence of addiction or drug abuse), which the driving license withdrawn was.

Follow-up training for drivers with alcohol abuse

As part of the follow-up training for drivers who are suspicious of alcohol, the causes that led to this measure being ordered must be discussed, the relationship between the misconduct and personal attitudes must be made aware and the options for eliminating them must be dealt with. Gaps in the knowledge of the course participants about the effect of alcohol on road users are to be closed and individually adapted behaviors are to be developed, tested and to some extent stabilized in order to change drinking habits and reliably separate alcohol consumption and driving in the future. Through the development of suitable behavioral patterns, the possibilities for self-control should be promoted, which should enable the course participants to avoid relapse into further traffic violations under the influence of alcohol.

Follow-up training for drivers with suspicious traffic

The aim of this course type is the creation of a standard, safety-conscious and considerate driving behavior of the course participant, in particular by changing the attitude towards other road users, by promoting risk awareness and by developing a realistic self-assessment as well as by improving hazard recognition. The course participant should be instructed to deal with the personal requirements of his misconduct and to become aware of the relationship between his misconduct, his attitude and his personality traits, including the behavioral observations during the driving test.

Follow-up training for drivers with drug problems / drug abuse

As part of this course, adequate behavioral strategies are to be developed to avoid driving vehicles with special impairments, namely by showing the motives and problems for the abuse, awareness of the dangers in road traffic through consciousness-altering and behavior-impairing substances as well as development, testing and, to a certain extent, stabilization of individual solution options for future freedom from incidents.

Admission as a follow-up training trainer

Specially trained psychologists are used as follow-up trainers . These are only allowed to hold courses within the framework of institutes that are recognized by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (BMVIT). Scope of the training courses

As a rule, the courses are held in a group of 6 to 11 participants. The course duration is 15 units and is usually extended to four dates within 22 to 40 days. In justified individual cases, the course can also be completed in the form of individual sessions.

The traffic psychology institutes are required to report to the Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology. Representatives of these institutions meet regularly for discussions within the framework of the Traffic Psychological Coordination Committee (VK).
