Hikers on the Fürstensteig

The Fürstensteig is an alpine hiking trail through the northwest face of the Alpspitz ( 1942  m above sea level ) in Liechtenstein . The path carved into the rock face was opened in 1898.

The exposed, well-secured and narrow mountain path ( difficulty level T3) that can be walked on by hikers begins above the hamlet of Gaflei in Triesenberg and ends at the Gafleisattel ( 1853  m above sea level ).

In 1898, Carl Schädler was largely responsible for the construction of the Fürstensteig, which Prince Johann II paid for, and he financed the stretch from Gafleisattel to the Kuhgratspitze and other mountain trails out of his own pocket.

The path can be continued past Gafleispitz ( 2000  m above sea level ) via Kuegrat ( 2123  m above sea level ) and Garsellikopf ( 2105  m above sea level ) to the Drei Schwestern ( 2052  m above sea level ).
