T42 (Paralympics)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

T42 and F42 are starting classes of Paralympic sports for athletes in athletics . Affiliations of athletes to the two starting classes are outlined as follows:

"Above-thigh amputees and those who are equal to these restrictions (e.g. combined arm / leg amputations)."

The starting classes T42 and F42 are very broad in practice due to the possible functional limitations of the athletes, including:

  • Unilaterally thigh amputee athletes
  • Athletes with amputated thighs on both sides
  • Athletes with multiple amputations, including one leg amputation on the knee
  • Athletes with a stiff leg (including loss of mobility in a knee joint)
  • others equivalent to these restrictions

The division into classes indicates the degree of functional disability of an athlete that is relevant to competition . Track and field athletes in classes T42 – T47 and F42 – F46 belong to the “amputees and equals” . Low class numbers indicate a higher level of impairment than high class numbers.

  • T42: Starting class for running and jumping disciplines in athletics, in which leg functions are particularly important,
  • F42: Starting class for technical disciplines in athletics, in which the arm functions are particularly important (except for high jump),
  • it is started upright.
