History / successes

The club's greatest successes began in the late 1920s and early 1930s, when it won the Swiss Cup against well-known opponents such as Lugano, Zurich and Old Boys. During this time, the club was also the Basel landscape champion and B-champion of Central Switzerland, which also meant promotion to the doctoral class. In 1928 the final of the Swiss promotion championship against the Young Boys Bern was unfortunately lost on their own pitch.

Since the 1950s, the club went downhill all the way down to the lowlands of the 3rd division before the turning point began in the 1990s.

The 1979/1980 season, in which FC Liestal won the Basler Cup, was a laudable exception. This success could be repeated in 1998 and 2006 (with the 2nd team). In 2003 the club won the Reini Erbe Cup, which is awarded to the best team in the Northwestern Switzerland Football Association.

In 2006 the club was opponent of FC Basel in the Swiss Cup.
