The locomotives No. 1 to 3 of the Freie Grunder Eisenbahn (FGE) were four-fold coupled tank locomotives. The three composite steam locomotives supplied by Jung were in use on the Herdorf – Unterwilden railway line until the early 1960s and were then scrapped.
history
For its Herdorf – Unterwilden railway line, the FGE purchased two composite steam locomotives from Jung in Jungenthal at a price of 34,000 marks each . The locomotives with the serial numbers 1000 and 1001 were completed in 1907. In 1908 a third machine was ordered from Jung, this vehicle with the serial number 1229 cost 41,000 marks.
The three locomotives took over the main load of the FGE's operation until the end of the 1960s, although other locomotives were also used by the FGE in the meantime. During the Second World War , Locomotive 2 was briefly handed over to the Eberswalde-Finowfurt Railway , but came back before the end of the war.
In 1959, the first diesel locomotive of the R 42 C series came to FGE with locomotive 4 . The machine, also built by Jung, replaced the steam locomotives. Locomotive 1 was sold to a scrap dealer as early as 1960, and the other two vehicles were also scrapped shortly afterwards in Unterwilden .
