The FoodFirst Information and Action Network Germany or FIAN Germany eV for short is an association based in Cologne. It is also a section of FIAN International .

Organizational profile

FIAN bases its work on international human rights agreements, in particular the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights ( Social Pact ) and advocates the consistent implementation of these agreements, in particular the right to adequate nutrition .

FIAN Germany was founded in 1986 as an e. V. founded. The organization is based on voluntary work and is supported by the contributions of around 1000 members as well as donations and project grants. The office (internally called “national secretariat” - NaSe) was for a long time in the premises of the Third World Information Center of the Herne church district , on the initiative of FIAN co-founder Harald Rohr , who later moved to Cologne. In 2016 there were regional groups in Berlin, Bremen, Koblenz, Cologne, Marl, Munich and Tübingen. Some accompany cases of right to food violations. They maintain close contact with the people affected and make their experiences known to the public - for example by organizing and accompanying tours for those affected, through publications or lectures. The local groups benefit from the work done by the office, but they act independently. FIAN Germany is a member organization of the Human Rights Forum .

FoodFirst magazine

Four times a year, the FoodFirst magazine provides information about hunger, world nutrition and the right to food. Specialist authors highlight a key topic in each issue. News from the organization as well as reports on the activities of the local groups, working groups and the FIAN sections in other countries form another focus of the magazine's content.
