The E.405 of Trenitalia was from 1998 to 2002 42 units of Adtranz , later Bombardier built.

history

The locomotive was originally not built for Italy, but for the Polish railways . In Poland it drove under the series designation EU11 , the designation was retained until it arrived in Italy. In 2003 it was repainted in the colors of Trenitalia and was given the series designation E.405.

The series is on the Brenner route for services or between Verona Porta Nuova and Brenner for towing services.

Technically

The locomotive runs with a voltage of 3 kV direct current . It has a modular structure, so many components can be exchanged with similar locomotives.

Due to the high pulling force (250 kN) it can reach a speed of 200 km / h. In Italy, however, the maximum speed is 160 km / h. The locomotive can be used multifunctionally, ie it can be used in heavy goods traffic or on fast passenger trains.

Bad accident

On December 13, 2006, there was a serious accident with two deaths, in which the E.405.032 was involved.
