Shelving

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A shelf rack is a shelf in which the respective storage is carried out on so-called shelves. This oldest of all shelf types takes its name from its load handling device, the shelf. Shelf racks generally consist of components manufactured in series such as shelf supports, load-bearing side walls, shelves, stiffening elements, etc. Shelf racks are primarily used where they are operated manually. This results in a standard height of around two meters. Initially, the use of ladders increased this height to around three meters. If the room height allows it, several approximately two meter high shelving units are placed on top of each other to create storeys.

Thanks to modern technical devices ( storage and retrieval machines , order picking devices , etc.), shelving racks can now be over 15 meters high. Operation can then also be carried out manually from the device.

Shelving racks are among the most widely used storage systems for order picking tasks . They are used in all areas of business , trade and administration through to use in private households and cellars. The preferred material for the shelf components is steel .
