Specialized information center of the Bundeswehr

The Specialized Information Center of the Federal Armed Forces (FIZBw) in Bonn , a group of the Specialized Tasks Department of the Federal Armed Forces in the Armed Forces Office , is a special military science library .

The Bundeswehr Technical Information Center has the task of identifying, selecting, acquiring, opening up, conveying and providing specialist information, specialist literature (e.g. books, essays, study and research reports) and other specialist media. Its target groups are members of the armed forces at offices without their own specialist information center / library as well as other authorized institutions and users. Private individuals can only use the FIZBw with restrictions (e.g. via interlibrary loan in the German loan system <Leihverkehrssigel 1073>).

The FIZBw is also the central facility for specialist information support for the Bundeswehr (FachInfoUstgBw), a network of Bundeswehr special libraries with around 55 specialist information points and specialist libraries. This association, which was founded in 1994 as the specialist information system of the Bundeswehr (FIWBw), has been operating under the name FachInfoUstgBw since May 27, 2010.

history

The FIZBw was set up in 1963 as the "Documentation Center of the Bundeswehr (DOKZENTBw)", the heart of the former documentation system of the Bundeswehr, and in 1988 it was renamed the "Documentation and Technical Information Center of the Bundeswehr (DOKFIZBw)". In the course of the 1994 merger of the Bundeswehr's library and documentation system to form the FIWBw, it was given its current name and the above-mentioned expanded range of tasks, now incorporated into the Armed Forces Office .
