The thread run describes the direction of the warp threads in a textile fabric. It must be taken into account when further processing fabrics, since cut pieces of fabric - depending on whether they are cut with an oblique cut or parallel to the grain of the thread - have different properties in terms of elasticity .

Determination of the grain

The thread path of a web of fabric can be recognized by its selvedge : it is usually parallel to this. Weft and warp threads are interwoven at a 90 ° angle, with the warp threads running parallel to the selvedge, i.e. describing the course of the thread.
