Flag formation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The streaking ( lat . Ars construendi vexilla the art flags to connect) is a dialectic technique for Development of reasonable matches (rational consensus) in groups.

The expression "flag formation" is used in this context, since conditions are formulated together, which are to be put together to a list that is as uniform and consistent as possible (= homogeneous list of conditions). These lists were called "flags" in the Roman dialectic.

target

The goal of the flag formation is to solve problems or to prepare decisions by means of a common progress in knowledge. It essentially has two tasks:

  • Establishing a common basic requirement
  • Expand this shared knowledge base

The testing of conclusions using formal logic can be cited as a secondary task. After the flag has been constructed, the question is whether the specified conditions are met or can be made feasible with reasonable effort appropriate to the problem. If it is possible to work out all the necessary conditions for a question in the flag, an essential prerequisite is fulfilled in the sense of Roman dialectics to answer the question or to solve the problem rationally.

Origin and history

The ancient Greek philosopher Plato is credited with being the first to construct flags. Already in ancient times it served as a means of dialectics and a method for working out rational consensus. Dialectics and with it the formation of flags were used from Roman times to the Middle Ages. However, this technique has been used less frequently since then.

In the 20th century, the flag formation was resumed by the German philosopher and theologian Rupert Lay as part of the overall topic of dialectics and continued in the form of books and seminars.

Example of a flag formation

This example is taken from the book "Ethics for Managers" (see literature). The worked question in this example is "What is fair wage?" In order to remain close to the question in terms of content when answering, it is suitable to present the objective function in the answer, i.e. to introduce the answer with: "A wage is fair (exactly) if ...".

  1. In the first step, the list of conditions is drawn up together with the participants in a brainstorming session with mirroring.
  2. In the second step, the contributions are classified as necessary , sufficient and important as part of a question .
  3. In the third step, a flag is formulated that contains all the arguments classified as necessary and sufficient .

With the help of the list of conditions, suggestions for solving a problem can be examined and discussed by the participants. If a participant does not agree to a condition, he will be asked for a new formulation that is suitable for consensus.

Differentiation from other techniques

The Brainstorming is a method of brainstorming, are held in the ideas that are rather erratic, without reflection and found on a creative way. Both methods typically take place in groups, whereby the participants are expected to make sensible, delimiting contributions when forming the flag.

The Scholastic Dispute is a dispute that forces participants to understand each other's point of view by having to reflect them before explaining their own. A dispute is to be resolved here. The subject of the flag formation is the joint development of the list of conditions.
