Under suspension tuning means the factory constructive vote of the chassis components to the intended use of a vehicle . These include springs and dampers, toe-in, scrub radius , handlebar length, pivot points, stabilizers and other parameters.

In the case of motorcycles in particular, however, the suspension struts can also be adjusted by the driver to the particular current needs, for example in the case of changing road conditions or individual loads from the driver or luggage. For this purpose, the preload of the spring and thus the negative spring travel can be adjusted. In addition, the compression stage , which determines the damping during compression or the rebound stage , which determines the damping during rebound, can also be varied.

More and more active or adaptive chassis elements are being used in cars, which make it possible to adjust the chassis settings while driving depending on external parameters (such as speed, payload , lateral acceleration).

In racing, the setting options go even further, but can usually not be used while driving.
