Fairfax (Washington)

Fairfax was a mining town in Pierce County , Washington State . Mining ended with the economic promotion of coal mining at the end of the Second World War . Until the completion of the 73 m high Farrell Bridge in 1921 (the tallest bridge in Washington at the time), the city could only be reached by rail or cargo horses. The city is remembered in a song by singer Ron Fowler, "Road to Fairfax", which was released on his independent CD "Radio Frequency".

The city was on the Carbon River about 9.5 km south of Carbonado on Washington State Route 165 .
