Drawbridge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The case bridge ( Greek sambýke ; latin Sambuca ) was a device in the ancient times during a siege has been used.

The drawbridge was either a pulling flap on the convertible tower , an attack device , or it was suspended on moving wagons between masts. With the help of the drawbridges besiegers tried to gain access to the wall and thus enable an attack. The drawbridges were usually arranged in such a way that when they were drawn up they covered the storm columns , threatened the enemy on the opposite wall with their weight and paved the way for the assault when they were settled.

Similar systems used to exist on ships for boarding other ships.
