Folding roof
A folding roof is a textile sliding roof attached to the outside . Compared to the steel sliding roof, it can open a much larger part of the roof. In contrast to the convertible top , however, the C-pillars and the rear window are not folded down. In the past, folding roofs were pushed back or pulled forward by hand. This process only took a few seconds. Nowadays, folding roofs are mainly operated electrically.
In the 1950s and 60s, depending on the equipment, folding roofs were found in the VW Beetle and Sachsenring Trabant, for example . The Citroën 2CV actually has a roll top - only the front part has been folded down; if you wanted to open the roof completely, it had to be rolled up from the outside.
Today such roofs are often built into small cars . They are or were particularly popular B. in the Renault Twingo or in the VW Polo III . You can also have folding roofs installed later.
