The folding clasp is a type of closure used on watch straps .

It is most commonly found on metal link belts.

Leather bracelets are usually provided with the classic pin buckle . If the watch is frequently put on and taken off, the leather on the pin buckle is kinked and this causes cracks in the leather. This is prevented with a folding clasp. It also makes it easier to put the watch on and take it off. The folding clasp on the leather strap is mainly used for watches in the upper price range. But it can be retrofitted without any problems.

In contrast to the pin buckle, the folding clasp does not open the bracelet completely, but unfolds (unfolds) on the hinges . This will widen the bracelet and can be removed from the arm. The commercially available leather straps are attached to the folding clasp with spring bars. The folding clasp is usually made of stainless steel , but can also be made of titanium , gold or platinum in particularly high-quality watches .

A special type of folding clasp is the butterfly folding clasp, it is equipped with four hinges instead of the usual three hinges and can thus be opened further.
