The family paper for the Israelite communities of Hamburg, Altona, Wandsbek and Harburg was a local edition of the Israelite family paper . In 1889, Max Lessmann founded a book printing and publishing company as a specialty printing company for trade and industry at ABC-Strasse 57 in Hamburg .

The magazine appeared there after it was founded in 1897. It was distributed free of charge to all members of the Jewish communities in the region. The magazine’s coverage is considered neutral and comprehensive, using a conciliatory tone.

The magazine was banned on November 10, 1938, one day after the Reichspogromnacht .

Some of the editions are archived on microfilm in the Hamburg State Archives .
