Family vacation spot

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A family vacation home is a facility that is intended to enable families with less financial resources to have an inexpensive vacation . While in the 1950s and 1960s such family vacation spots were created on a large scale in Germany, many of these family vacation spots either ceased operations or changed their concept in the 1980s.

Family vacation homes are often operated by churches, trade unions and non-profit associations. The Federal Ministry of Family Affairs in Bonn has been funding the expansion of family vacation facilities since 1968 with subsidies of around 100 million. In the mid-1970s there were family vacation facilities with a total of 20,000 beds. The 109 holiday homes and 53 holiday villages existed throughout the Federal Republic. However, they had a focus in the German low mountain ranges between Cologne, Frankfurt and Kassel.

Originally, the right to go on holiday there at reduced prices was reserved for families with a minimum number of children and a maximum income. After the load dropped from the beginning of the 1980s, these requirements were gradually reduced.

Today there are 107 family holiday facilities that are united in the Federal Family Recreation Working Group.
