Structure and history

The family care work of the Bavarian State Association of the Catholic German Women's Association (KDFB) eV is a subsidiary of the Women's Association, the largest women's association in Bavaria. Family care has been a tradition in the Bavarian State Association since the 1950s. The family care stations were originally located at the local KDFB branch associations.

As part of a restructuring, the family care trade was constituted as a registered association on July 24, 2003. It is recognized as a non-profit organization and assigned to the German Caritas Association , Landesverband Bayern eV, as the umbrella organization for voluntary welfare . With 19 family care stations and around 150 employees, it is the largest provider of family care in Bavaria. The office is located in Munich .

Tasks and main areas of work

The family care work helps families in social, familial and financial emergencies. If the person (mother or father) who runs the household and brings up the children is unable to do so, families can take advantage of the legally regulated family care service, e.g. B. in the case of a high-risk pregnancy, physical and psychological overload, during a hospital stay, rehabilitation measures, a cure or to relieve family members who care for the disabled or chronically ill. The family carers and family care assistants run the household, look after the children and help to cope with difficult situations. When used by families with children, they also care for disabled and elderly people in cooperation with specialists from outpatient care services.

Financing and legal basis

The costs for family care can be borne by the statutory health insurances (for children under 12 years of age), youth welfare offices (for children under 14 years of age), pension insurance institutions and social welfare offices. In the case of inpatient treatment of the mother / father, family care is a statutory health insurance benefit. In the case of outpatient care, a voluntary benefit that is regulated in the statutes of the health insurance companies.

The fee rates of the health insurance companies and other cost carriers only cover two thirds of the costs of family care. Therefore the family care work is dependent on grants and donations. It is financed with state, municipal and church grants, with funds from the Bavarian State Association of the Catholic German Women's Association and donations.
