Farmàcia Esteve
The Farmàcia Esteve is a historic pharmacy in the Spanish exclave Llívia , in the French part of the Pyrenees . It is one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe.
history
In 1415 Jaume Esteve founded the Farmàcia. It was owned by the family for around 527 years. León Antonio Esteve (descendant in the 23rd generation) gave up the pharmacy in 1942 and opened a new pharmacy in Puigcerdà . In 1958, the municipal council of Llivia decided to keep the historic pharmacy and set it up as the Museu Municipal . In 1965, the Diputación de Girona , Province of Girona , decided by a majority to purchase the pharmacy. The entire inventory has been placed under protection and registered in the Cultural d'Interès Local (BCIL) en l'Inventari del Patrimoni Cultural català amb el codi IPA-7775 .

In the museum, all three areas of the former pharmacy, the actual shop, the back room and the laboratory were renovated and furnished according to the original. The collection shows next to the counter, a library, recipes, mortars, stills, baroque poison cupboard in which the most effective substances and remedies were kept.
In the laboratory, the individual devices are strategically distributed in order to simulate the atmosphere in which the remedies were once put together according to the formulations presented by the doctor. The valuable, colorful ceramic medicine containers in the Renaissance style probably date from the beginning of the 16th century and, in addition to depictions of botanical motifs, also show images of those saints who were considered important for the recovery of suffering at the time. The exact origin has not yet been clarified. In another showcase is a collection of baroque containers and in the rich library there is a particularly voluminous masterpiece of healing from 1652.
