Barrel bar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The wooden or metal bar that secures the so-called barrel door on the front of larger barrels against the internal pressure exerted by the liquid inside is called a barrel bar . The barrel door is used to empty and clean the barrel. Like the barrel front itself, the wooden barrel bars were often decorated with carvings and sometimes also painted. Mythological figures such as the wine god Bacchus , dragons, lions and mermaids were depicted , and there were also erotic motifs.
