Fats Theus

Arthur James “Fats” Theus (* around 1930) is an American rhythm & blues and soul jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , arrangement ).

Live and act

Theus played in Los Angeles in the early 1950s with Preston Love , on whose recordings for Federal Records he participated ("Stay By My Side", with singer Frank Erwin). Under his own name he recorded the single "Be Cool My Heart" / "Rock'n'Roll Drive in" for Aladdin in 1956 (# 3324). In the 1960s he worked with Billy Larkin ( Ain't That A Groove ), Jimmy McGriff ( I've Got a New Woman ), for whom he also arranged (“The Worm”, 1968), and in the group Wildare Express with Reuben Wilson . In 1970 he recorded the album Black Out for CTI ; Contributing musicians included Hilton Felton , Grant Green , Chuck Rainey , Jimmy Lewis and Idris Muhammad . The title track, an original composition, was also released as a single. In 1971 he still recorded with McGriff and O'Donel Levy ( Black Velvet ). The discographer Tom Lord lists fifteen recording sessions between 1953 and 1971 in the field of R&B and jazz.
