The Favoritner Sportclub is a former Austrian football club , which played a season in the top division in 1934/35 .

history

After the traditional favorite club ASV Hertha Wien left the league in 1931, some officials and players decided to found a new club that would succeed Hertha and named it Favoritner SC . However, the football association did not recognize the club as the successor to Hertha and rejected the request to take over their second division place. Faced with the alternative of having to start in the lowest division, a new strategy was developed. The players joined SV Finanz , the sports club of Vienna's financial employees, which had just been promoted to the second division through a league reform , and during the winter break of the championship in 1931/32 the football section split off from the entire club and took on the name Favoritner SC .

After the class could initially be held and a midfield position was achieved in the following season, the club strengthened itself with some first division experienced players and was able to end the season 1933/34 with a clear point gap at the top of the table and thus achieve promotion to the first division. The favorite squad was strengthened again, including the former Mitropacup winner Johann Billich , Otto Marischka , Willibald Hahn and Rudolf Vytlačil . The favorites now mostly played their home games on the FC Wien pitch and started the season with a win against FK Austria Wien . In the next few rounds, the club was able to keep up, but gradually slipped back in the table and wintered as tenth of twelve clubs. In the spring it then suffered a series of defeats and there were also considerable economic difficulties. When the club fell behind with their players' salaries, they even had to play with parts of the reserve team at the end of the season. The Favoritner SC finally ended the season bottom of the table and rose again to the II. League.

Many of the established players left the club, and after a few rounds of the second division season 1935/36 it turned out that the club was no longer economically viable. Because of backward payments, he was initially suspended, finally excluded from the association in November 1935 and the previous games in the table were canceled. In March 1936, the Favoritner SC was dissolved.
