The Fayuan Si ( Fayuan Temple , Fayuan Monastery ; Chinese  法源寺 , Pinyin Fǎyuán sì , English Fayuan Temple / Fayuan Monastery ) in the southern district of Xuanwu of the historical center of Beijing is an old Buddhist monastery. The monastery has been the seat of the Chinese Buddhist Academy ( Zhongguo Foxueyuan ), the highest Buddhist academy in the country , since 1956 .

The Fayuan Si was built in 645 of the Tang Dynasty, making it the oldest existing temple in Beijing. It has had several names throughout its history. After several interim renovations, most of the buildings in today's temple complex date from the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The Fayuan Si has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (5-201) since 2001 .

It is one of the national focus temples of Buddhism in Han Chinese areas .
