Xuanwu (Beijing)

Xuanwu ( Chinese  宣武区 , Pinyin Xuānwǔ Qū ) was a district of the Chinese capital Beijing with 550,000 inhabitants. On July 1, 2010, it was dissolved and its area integrated into the Xicheng District .

Xuanwu was located southwest of the city center ( Tian'anmen Square ), was 16.5 km² and was the second smallest district of the historic old town after Chongwen .

history

Although or precisely because the district had a checkered historical development behind it, far-reaching changes took place. Many of the original hutongs have been torn down, not least in preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics .
