Federal Correctional Complex, Butner

Federal Correctional Complex, Butner is a US federal prison in the city of Butner, in Granville County in northern North Carolina .

Institutions

The complex has four institutions:

  • FMC Butner , a federal prison for male prisoners at all security levels.
  • FCI Butner Medium , medium security level.
  • FCI Butner Medium II , medium security level.
  • FCI Butner Low , low security level.

Butner has the largest medical and psychological complex of any US federal prison.

It has two therapy programs for drug addicts.

Jon Burge Inmate from Butner (Low). Former officer in the Chicago Police Department , tortured approximately 200 suspects between 1972 and 1991 .
John Connolly Dismissed in June 2011. Ex-FBI agent involved in a number of criminal offenses with gangster James J. Bulger and the Winter Hill Gang . The scandal served as a template for the film The Departed . Serving 40 years in Florida for the murder of a witness.
Anthony Graziano In Butner (Low) since 2010. Mafioso, former consigliere of the Bonanno family .
Peter Halat, Jr. Currently (as of 2010) in Butner (Low). Former Mayor of Biloxi, Mississippi.
Keith Gordon Ham, aka Kirtanananda Swami Dismissed in 2004. Sat for fraud and embezzlement.
John Rigas Currently (as of 2010) in Butner (Low). Embezzled $ 2.3 billion.
