Federal Medical Center Carswell

The Federal Medical Center (FMC) Carswell in Fort Worth , Texas is a US federal agency founded in 1994. It is a prison hospital that provides medical and psychological assistance to female federal prisoners.

FMC Carswell is located in the immediate vicinity of the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth , formerly known as Carswell Air Force Base . The facility, which houses around 1,400 inmates, is the only federal facility for female prisoners.

Scandals

Articles appeared in 2007 alleging mistreatment of prisoners. These allegations included medical bungling and sexual harassment. Seven FMC Carswell employees reportedly sexually molested prisoners over a period of seven years.

In March 2000, prison officer Lawrence Miller raped prisoner Marilyn Shirley. Only in 2004 was he sentenced to 150 months in prison.

In May 2008, 48-year-old Vincent Inametti, a Catholic priest who served as a chaplain at FMC Carswell, was sentenced to 48 months' imprisonment for double sexual harassment of prisoners.
