history

The FNV was formed in 1976 in the course of discussions between several trade unions about intensified cooperation. At the time of the pillar of the Netherlands, the individual population groups had their own trade union, three of them, the Nederlands Verbond van Vakverenigingen (NVV, socialist ), the Nederlands Katholiek Verbond (NKV, Catholic ) and the Christelijk Nationaal Vakverbond (CNV, reformed)) were involved in the talks, which took place at a time when the social importance of the column had already declined considerably. However, since the CNV decided to continue to exist as an independent union, the merger only came about between the NVV and the NKV. Initially, the two unions continued to exist as individual units within their merger, but with the formal merger on January 1, 1982, they finally ceased to exist. The first chairman of the FNV was Wim Kok , who had previously been chairman of the NVV since 1973.

Tasks and structure

The FNV mainly represents employees from different professional groups. She is significantly involved in the negotiation of collective agreements (ndl. Collectieve Arbeidsovereenkomst, CAO). The highest decision-making body is the Federatiecongress , which meets at least once every four years and is made up of representatives of the individual trade unions. The Federatiecongress elects the members of the board ( Federatiebestuur ), which consists of four people. The Federatieraad consists of the executive committee and the chairmen of the individual trade unions. It meets every two weeks.
