Federico Adolfo Sturzenegger (born February 11, 1966 in Rufino ) is an Argentine economist and politician. Since December 2015 he has been Chairman of the Central Bank of Argentina .

Sturzenegger comes from an originally Swiss family. He studied at La Plata University , the Massachusetts Institute of Technology , the University of California and Harvard University , where he is now a lecturer. From 1995 and 1998 he was the chief economist of the oil company YPF .

In 2008 he took over the management of the Banco Ciudad under Mauricio Macri , the then mayor of Buenos Aires , and made it the most profitable state-owned company in Argentina.
