Fairy tale (waltz)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Feenmärchen is a waltz by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 312). The work was performed for the first time on November 18, 1866 in the Volksgarten in Vienna.

Remarks

The waltz was written in the summer of 1866 against the backdrop of the war of 1866 , which ended unhappily for the Danube monarchy. The mood in Vienna was correspondingly depressed and Johann Strauss began his waltz in a gloomy, sad mood. In the process he then leads over to the usual cheerfulness. This can also be seen as a sign that he foresees a coming improvement in the situation and mood and thus wanted to give the people new hope. The work was performed on the occasion of a joint concert by all three Strauss brothers on November 18, 1866 in Vienna's Volksgarten. Parts of the waltz were incorporated into the operetta Wiener Blut in 1899 by Adolf Müller (1839–1901) , which he compiled based on motifs by Johann Strauss. Also Antal Doráti (1906-1988) subjects used in the waltz in his in 1939, also by Strauss motifs compiled ballet Graduation Ball . The waltz itself did not attract any particular attention from audiences or critics in the year it was first performed. He was considered one of many Strauss waltzes.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 9 minutes and 45 seconds. Depending on the musical conception of the conductor, this time can change by up to a minute plus or minus.
