Error concealment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As error concealment (English error concealment ) process are used for concealment of errors in digital data streams , respectively.

Such methods are used if the capacities for error correction are exhausted, i.e. further error correction is not possible. In this case, incorrect data words are replaced by an estimated value. However, in order to be able to create an estimated value, certain statements about the data to be transmitted and their structure at the recipient must be able to be made. Under that condition, this estimated value can then be the mean value ( interpolation ) between the two correctly transmitted neighboring words, for example in the case of a pulse-code-modulated data stream in which a sample was not correctly transmitted .

Another necessary requirement for the use of error concealment is error detection .
