The "Julia" field railway near Dorogobusch was a field railway south of Dorogobusch in Russia that was laid and operated by the German Wehrmacht during the Second World War .

history

The commander of the railway troops from Army High Command 4 ( Kodeis vom AOK 4, Stab II./Eisb. Pi. Rgt. 1) directed the construction of this line . It was in fourth place on the urgency list of May 12, 1943.

Construction began at the end of May or beginning of June 1943. Most of the earthmoving required for the alignment was carried out by Soviet women. The Railway Pioneer Company 68 and probably also the 3./Eisb.Pi.Rgt. 1 were involved in the construction.

After commissioning, the light railway was operated until September 22, 1943 as a countermeasure to the final phase of the Smolensk-Roslavler operation . Colonel-General Gotthard Heinrici , the Commander-in-Chief of the 4th Army drove them in a motorized trolley .

Route

The route was about 28 km long and had a track width of 600 mm. It led from Jelnja to the north via Uschakowo , Bhf Schemetowo, Artjuschino to Jakolewo.
