Anita Sabine von Diest-Brackenhausen , also von Brackenhausen or von Diest (born September 20, 1931 in Bandoeng , Java ) is a German sculptor and painter .

Life

Anita Sabine von Brackenhausen was born on September 20, 1931 as the daughter of the graduate engineer Hans Georg von Brackenhausen (* February 10, 1897 - January 31, 1942) and his wife Eva (* September 10, 1903), born von Behr , in Bandoeng (now Bandung ) was born on the island of Java in Indonesia , but grew up in Potsdam , Germany. From 1930 at the latest, i.e. even before the birth, until at least 1932, the family lived at Wörther Strasse 9a in Potsdam, and from 1934 at the latest to at least 1939 at Potsdamer Schwanenallee 8 with a view of the Havel . Her father was killed on January 31, 1942, during World War II . When the Red Army approached Brandenburg and the adjacent Berlin in 1945 , the family fled to Hamburg and settled there.

From 1949 von Brackenhausen studied at the Polytechnic School of Art in Regent Street in London with Geoffrey Hamton Deeley (1912-2007) and Charlotte Ellen Osborne (1902-1994, wife of James Thomas Armor Osborne (1907-1979)). In 1951 she received a grant from the British Institution Scholarship for Sculpture of the Royal Academy of Arts . In 1953 she was awarded the National Diploma in Design . From 1955 she learned stone carving in Kent . From 1956 to 1957 or 1958 he studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts with Hans Martin Ruwoldt .

From 1959 she had her own studio in Hamburg. On August 21, 1959, she married Walther von Diest, a business graduate, and soon afterwards called herself Sabine von Diest-Brackenhausen. In the Hamburg address book it was not entered under the name until 1966 with the address Bellmannstrasse 13 in Hamburg-Groß Flottbek . Her husband was also listed at the address from 1962. She has had her own studio in Helmstorf since 1967 , which has been part of the Seevetal community since 1972 . Since 1982 at the latest until at least 2012, her studio has been in the street Vor den Hockenkuhlen 27 in Helmstorf.

Sabine von Diest-Brackenhausen is one of the ten founding members of the artist group Seevetaler Künstler 74 , founded in 1974, of which the painter and sculptor Martin Irwahn was also a member. She is also a member of the professional association of visual artists and GEDOK . In 1985 she received the art prize of the Children's Foundation in Hamburg .

family

Sabine von Diest-Brackenhausen has two children with her husband Walther von Diest. She herself has five siblings. Her father, Hans Georg von Brackenhausen, was the son of Maximilian von Brackenhausen (1867–1917), who was married to Annemarie Gariele von Benda (1871–1924). This was a daughter of the landowner and MP Robert von Benda , whose father was the chamber director Wilhelm von Benda . He was in turn a son of the musician Carl Benda , whose father was the violinist, composer and conductor Franz Benda . This in turn was a son of the linen weaver and musician Hans Georg Benda , who was the progenitor of the musician family Benda .
