Bright Osayi-Samuel (born December 31, 1997 in Okija , Anambra ) is a Nigerian - English football player who has been under contract with the second division Queens Park Rangers since August 2017 .

Private

Born in Okija , Anambra , Bright Osayi-Samuel moved with his parents to Spain as a child before moving to England at the age of ten , where the family settled in the Woolwich district of London . He has a Nigerian and English passport and is therefore eligible to play for both national teams. In an interview in 2016 he himself announced that he wanted to appear for those of the African state.

Career

Blackpool FC

Osayi-Samuel comes from the youth department of Blackpool FC and was promoted to the first team at the turn of the year 2014/15 . On March 7, 2015 (36th matchday) he made his debut in the second-highest English division in the 0-1 home defeat against Sheffield Wednesday at the age of 17 when he was substituted on for Connor Oliver in the 60th minute of the game . At the end of the season he was in six missions and had to start with his club as a knocked-down bottom in the table in the third-rate Football League One . In the next 2015/16 season he established himself as a rotation player at the club in crisis and played 23 league games. However , Osayi-Samuel could not prevent the total crash into fourth class .

On December 10, 2016 (20th matchday), he scored for the Seasiders for the first time in a 2-0 away win against Stevenage FC . On March 18, 2017 (38th matchday), he promoted his team with a brace and an assist to a 3-1 away win against AFC Newport County . In this 2016/17 season he scored four goals and three assists in 31 league games and thus made a significant contribution to the promotion play-offs. After Luton Town was beaten in the semi-finals, they won the final against Exeter City and sealed the return to League One.

Queens Park Rangers

On September 1, 2017, Osayi-Samuel moved to the second division Queens Park Rangers , where he signed a three-year contract. On September 23 (9th matchday) he made his debut in the 0-0 draw against Burton Albion for the Rangers when he was substituted on at half-time for Yeni Ngbakoto . In this 2017/18 season he was mainly used as a substitute. On April 28, 2018 (45th matchday), he scored his first goal of the season in a 3-1 home win against Birmingham City . In his first season he played 18 league appearances.

He held this status in the 2018/19 season and played 27 league games in which he scored twice. In the following 2019/20 season , he made his breakthrough in the starting line-up of head coach Mark Warburton in December 2019 . On January 1, 2020, he scored twice in the 6-1 home win over Cardiff City .
