Geoffrey Scott "Geoff" Cameron (born July 11, 1985 in Attleboro , Massachusetts ) is an American football player .
Career
Youth and college
In his youth, Cameron played for Bayside FC. He attended Attleboro High School and Providence Country Day School in East Providence , Rhode Island . After graduating, he went to West Virginia University. There he played college soccer for two years before moving to the University of Rhode Island in 2006 . At the end of his senior season in college, he was named Best Midfielder of the Year in the Atlantic 10 Conference. He was also appointed to the all-Mid Atlantic Region selection.
While in college, he also played for the Rhode Island Stingrays in the Premier Development League .
Club career
After college, he took part in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft. There he was selected in the third round by Houston Dynamo . He made his debut for the Texans on March 29, 2008 in a game against New England Revolution . In his first home game, on April 6, 2008, he scored his first goal shortly before the end of the game and secured a 3-3 draw against FC Dallas . During the season he was substituted on regularly and was also on the field for some games from the start. At the end of the season he was nominated for the MLS Rookie of the Year Award, the prize for the best young player.
In the 2009 season he was able to establish himself more and more in the team and was called up in the summer for the MLS All-Star game against FC Everton , where he was in the starting lineup. In the same year he was appointed to the MLS Best XI , a selection of the best players of the season.
During the 2010 season he injured his knee and was unable to play half of the season. Cameron returned in August and scored a goal in his first game. In 2011 he was nominated for the MLS All-Star Game .
National team
In January 2009 he was appointed to the US national team for the first time . But he could not take part in the friendly against Sweden because he was injured. He made his debut on February 24, 2010 against El Salvador , where he came on in the 86th minute.
