history

Sparkasse Holstein was created on January 1, 2006 from the merger of Sparkasse Ostholstein with Sparkasse Stormarn. However, the story goes back much further. In 1824, both the oldest predecessors of the Sparkasse Ostholstein (the private savings and loan bank Oldenburg and the savings and loan bank Neustadt) and the Sparkasse Stormarn (the savings and loan bank of the city of Bad Oldesloe) were founded. The charity and charity of the founders were at the forefront of the Sparkasse foundations. In the 1920s, the first takeovers of neighboring savings banks took place. This trend intensified until the end of World War II .

In 1913, the Stormarn District Sparkasse was founded in Wandsbek . This took over the Kreissparkasse Ahrensburg in 1942 and moved to Bad Oldesloe two years later . Through the merger with the Stadtsparkasse Bad Oldesloe to form the district and Stadtsparkasse Stormarn (later only Kreissparkasse Stormarn), the predecessor institution of the Sparkasse Holstein, the Sparkasse Stormarn, was formed.

In 1918, the district savings bank of the Oldenburg district was also founded. This involved the amalgamation of individual savings banks in the area of what was then the Oldenburg district (in Holstein). By 1943, it united nine predecessor savings banks under one roof. The Kreissparkasse Eutin emerged in 1940 from the Oldenburg-Lübecker Landesbank. Among other things, she was responsible for the Holstein branches of the Oldenburgische Landesbank (here Oldenburg in Oldg). As a result of the district reform of the two districts of Eutin and Oldenburg to form the Ostholstein district in 1971, the Ostholstein district savings bank was finally created, the second predecessor of the Holstein savings bank.

The two district savings banks were renamed Sparkassen in 1993.
