Regent Street
The Regent Street in London is a main shopping street and thoroughfare in the West End of the city.
Named after the Prince Regent and later King George IV , it was built by John Nash from 1811 to 1825 as part of a ceremonial road from the regent's residence, St James's Palace, to Regent's Park . It leads north from Waterloo Place as Lower Regent Street to Piccadilly Circus and behind the square as The Quadrant and then as Regent Street to Oxford Circus . As Upper Regent Street, it eventually stretches to Langham Place , Cavendish Place and Mortimer Streetdown. All of the buildings built by Nash were replaced by neo-baroque buildings in the 1920s . Most of Regent Street is owned by the Crown Estate .
Characteristic of Regent Street is its world-famous section in Piccadilly Circus, in which the street runs on an arc .
