Gospel Train Hamburg

Gospel Train sings for Queen Silvia of Sweden.

Gospel Train is the youth choir of the Goethe-Schule-Harburg. The choir also presents individually arranged pieces from the fields of gospel , pop and soul . Topics such as tolerance, friendship, consolation, love and helpfulness are particularly decisive for the selection of the pieces. Gospel Train is invited to benefit concerts and church events.

Inspired by the film Sister Act , the middle school choir of the Harburg Comprehensive School, founded in 1992, wanted to include some gospel titles in the program. The 80 choir members consist of students from grades 7 to 13, as well as some former students. Almost every singer plays an instrument, is a student in a class orchestra and many have singing lessons. The choir is accompanied by a 5-member band, which is made up of both professional musicians and music students from the Harburg comprehensive school.

Gospel Train has created around 45 pieces arranged by choirmaster Peter Schuldt. In 2004 the live recording Take The Chance live was made as a fully sponsored in-house production. This was produced in an edition of a few thousand pieces and sold in self-distribution for the benefit of the choir fund at benefit performances. In addition to classic gospels, it also includes interpretations of Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, U2 and The Corrs songs. Choir director Peter Schuldt received the Harburg Music Prize in 2007.

In 2008 a second live recording with the name Build A Bridge followed in the atrium of the HanseMerkur. In the same year the DVD documentation Gospel Train - I hear your voice - more than just a choir by Gaby Harms followed. In July 2013 Gospel Train started with the first studio production and finished its recordings in September of the same year. In 2013 the studio album Our Way was released. In 2014 the next CD was released under the name You make the difference - highlights of a choir story: 2004-2014 , which contains new songs as well as older songs known from other albums.

In 2019 the Gospel Train celebrated its twentieth anniversary.
